Ruby Duncan
January 1, 1933 - April 27, 2026 (Age 93)
It’s with a heavy heart, but also with so much love and gratitude, that we announce the passing of Ruby Duncan on April 27, 2026, at the age of 93. Ruby, born January 1st, 1933, was a force of nature, a woman who dedicated her life to making the world a little bit fairer, one family at a time. I’ll always remember her infectious laugh – it could fill a room and chase away any cloud. She had a way of seeing the good in everyone, even when they couldn’t see it in themselves, and she believed fiercely in the power of compassion and community.
Ruby wasn’t just a friend; she was a pillar of strength for so many. She and her family built a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to helping those less fortunate. Her family – her siblings, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren – were the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. But her passions extended far beyond her family. Ruby dedicated her life to advocating for welfare rights, tirelessly working to ensure that low-income families in Las Vegas had access to the resources they needed to thrive. She co-founded Operation Life and led the Clark County Welfare Rights Organization, becoming a true champion for those often overlooked. I’ll never forget the energy she brought to those protests – the determination in her eyes, the unwavering belief in what was right.
What truly set Ruby apart was her unwavering spirit and her ability to inspire others. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, to challenge the status quo, and to fight for what she believed in. The organization she helped build, the federal food stamp program she brought to Nevada, these weren’t just accomplishments; they were testaments to her dedication and her profound impact on the lives of countless people. She reminded us all that even small acts of kindness can make a world of difference.
Ruby is survived by her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her spirit of generosity and advocacy forward. She may be gone, but her legacy of compassion, courage, and unwavering belief in the power of human connection will live on forever. We will miss her dearly, but we are so grateful for the time we had with her. A celebration of Ruby’s life will be held on [Date] at [Location]. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Clark County Welfare Rights Organization in her memory.
