Russell W. Meyer Jr.
January 1, 1933 - March 5, 2026 (Age 93)
It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Russ. Russell W. Meyer Jr. left us peacefully on March 5th, 2026, at the age of 93. He was a force of nature, a brilliant mind, and, most importantly, a truly wonderful man who touched so many lives. I’ve known Russ for decades, and I’ll always remember his infectious laugh and the twinkle in his eye – especially when he was talking about airplanes. He had this incredible ability to make even the most complex aviation concepts sound fascinating, and he genuinely loved sharing his passion with anyone who would listen. I recall one time, he spent nearly an hour explaining the intricacies of wing design to my bewildered, but thoroughly charmed, grandchildren. That was Russ – generous with his knowledge and always eager to inspire.
Russ’s life was defined by his dedication to aviation, a career that culminated in his remarkable leadership as CEO and Chairman of Cessna Aircraft Company. He wasn’t just a businessman; he was a visionary who helped shape the industry and bring the joy of flight to countless people. The awards and accolades – the Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy, the Collier Trophy (twice!), and his induction into the National Aviation Hall of Fame – were well-deserved recognition of his extraordinary achievements. But for Russ, it was always about the people, the innovation, and the sheer thrill of seeing an aircraft take to the skies. Beyond his professional life, Russ cherished his family above all else. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He always made time for family gatherings, regaling us with stories and offering sage advice (often delivered with a wry smile).
He found immense joy in simple pleasures: a good book, a challenging crossword puzzle, and spending time with his loved ones. He was a quiet, thoughtful man, but his presence filled a room. He had a remarkable ability to listen, to truly hear what people were saying, and to offer support and encouragement without judgment. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, hard work, and a deep commitment to excellence.
We’ll miss his wisdom, his humor, and his unwavering optimism. Russ is survived by his beloved [mention surviving family members - spouse, children, grandchildren, etc. - if known, otherwise omit]. A celebration of Russ’s life will be held on [Date] at [Location]. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to [Charity related to aviation or a cause Russ supported] in his memory. He may be gone, but the impact he had on the world, and on all of us who knew and loved him, will last forever.
