Servet Pëllumbi
January 1, 1937 - May 7, 2026 (Age 89)
Servet Pëllumbi slipped out of this world the way he lived in it: gently, with a smile tucked behind his words. I’ll always see him in the doorway of his study, kettle singing, teasing that coffee was the only parliament he never lost a vote in. He had a way of turning ordinary mornings into small ceremonies—asking about your heart before your homework, remembering your favorite bread, insisting that patience, like good conversation, only improves when you let it rise. Even when the headlines grew loud, he kept his voice soft, as if kindness could steady the room better than any gavel.
Family was his true compass. He loved his home like a promise, fussing over grandchildren’s drawings as if they were state papers worth preserving, and holding his wife’s hand across decades like it was both shelter and adventure. Sunday lunches stretched into evenings because he would not let anyone leave without laughing twice and forgiving once. He taught us that loyalty is not a speech but a steady presence, showing up with soup when you were low and applause when you soared, never making love feel like a duty.
His passions were wide and warm: long walks that turned into lessons about trees and history, dog-eared novels he pressed into friends’ hands like gifts, and the hush of a Sunday morning notebook where he sketched ideas for a fairer Albania. As speaker of parliament and lecturer, he believed politics could be a room where people learned to listen, not just win. He carried that belief everywhere, nudging stubborn hearts toward grace.
Servet left us on a spring day, the light soft at his shoulders, but his echo is everywhere—in choices made with care, in jokes that land like blessings, in the certainty that a life stitched together by love outlives any title. We will miss him terribly, and we will keep trying, for him, to make the world feel like home.
