Silvino Louro

January 1, 1959 - March 20, 2026 (Age 67)

It’s hard to believe we’re saying goodbye to Silvino. Born on January 1st, 1959, he truly lived a life full of passion, dedication, and a whole lot of heart. Most people knew him as Silvino, the goalkeeper – a legend on the pitch for Vitória Setúbal, Benfica, and even representing Portugal. But to us, he was simply Dad, Avô, husband, brother, and friend. He always downplayed his accomplishments, but we all knew how much those 408 Primeira Liga appearances, spread over 21 seasons, meant to him, and how incredibly proud we were. I remember being a little kid, and the excitement of going to his games, the roar of the crowd when he made an incredible save… it felt like the whole stadium was shaking! Silvino wasn’t just defined by football, though. He had this incredible warmth and a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He loved a good joke, a strong coffee, and spending time with his family. He was the ultimate storyteller, always recounting tales from his playing days, often exaggerating just a little for effect, and making us all laugh until our sides hurt. After retiring as a player, he didn’t step away from the game he loved. He transitioned into coaching, and it was amazing to see him work alongside José Mourinho, passing on his knowledge and experience to a new generation. He always said the best part of coaching wasn’t the tactics, but seeing young players grow and believe in themselves. He had a quiet strength about him, a resilience that carried him through everything life threw his way. He faced challenges with grace and always found a way to see the good in people. He was a constant source of support and encouragement, always believing in us even when we doubted ourselves. He adored his grandchildren, and they absolutely adored him back. He’d spend hours playing with them, building Lego castles, or simply reading stories, his face lit up with pure joy. Silvino left us on March 20th, 2026, leaving a void in our lives that will never truly be filled. But his spirit, his laughter, and his love will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to know him. He touched so many lives, not just through football, but through his kindness, his generosity, and his unwavering love for his family. We’ll miss you terribly, Silvino. Rest peacefully.
