Born on January 1st, 1965, Sonam wasn't one for quiet corners; he embraced life with a fierce spirit and a ready smile. Even as a young boy, growing up in the high mountains, he possessed a quiet determination, a resilience that would define his remarkable journey. He had this infectious laugh, the kind that could fill a room and chase away any shadow. I’ll always remember his stories from his time in the army – not boasting, but sharing tales with a humble pride, always with a twinkle in his eye. He was known for his unwavering loyalty and a deep sense of duty, qualities that led him to become a respected Colonel in the Indian Army, earning the esteemed Maha Vir Chakra for his bravery during the Kargil War. They called him the Lion of Ladakh, and he truly lived up to that name – brave, steadfast, and fiercely protective of those he served with. Sonam’s love for his family was everything. He was a devoted son, brother, and uncle, always ready with a helping hand or a comforting word. He cherished time spent with his family, whether it was sharing a meal, recounting old stories, or simply enjoying each other's company. He had a knack for making everyone feel seen and valued. He was incredibly patient and understanding, always offering a listening ear and wise counsel. His family was his anchor, and he built his life around them with unwavering love and dedication. He carried the weight of his responsibilities with grace and quiet strength, always putting others before himself. Beyond his military achievements, Sonam had a passion for the simple joys of life. He loved spending time in nature, hiking through the mountains he held so dear. He was a keen observer, finding beauty in the smallest details. Though his heart suddenly stopped on April 10th, 2026, after a heart attack, the Lion of Ladakh’s spirit will continue to roar in the hearts of all who loved him.
