Ted Turner
January 1, 1939 - May 7, 2026 (Age 87)
Ted was a tornado of good ideas wrapped in a soft Georgia drawl, and if you loved him, you learned to hold your hat and laugh. He could light up a kitchen table with schemes that felt impossible until he made them happen, then shrug like it was nothing and ask if you wanted more sweet tea. We teased him for talking to television sets like they were old friends, but really he was listening for the next story the world needed to see. Ted believed that stubborn hope could outrun fear, and he spent his life proving it, usually with a grin and a slightly wild glint in his eye.
At home, he was steady as sunrise, the kind of dad and partner who showed up with muddy boots and big plans and then paused to really hear you. He adored his family with a hands-on love that meant pancakes at midnight, Braves games in July heat, and long walks where he named every bird like they were neighbors. He taught us that loyalty isn’t loud; it’s showing up again, with kindness tucked into your back pocket, and forgiving fast so love has room to grow. His heart was a noisy, generous place, always making space for one more chair at the table.
What lit Ted up was putting people in front of truth and joy, whether that meant cheering for a baseball team like it was family or building CNN so the world could witness its own story rolling live. He tinkered with boats and land, chasing sunrises and buffalo across quiet pastures, because he believed beauty deserved protecting. He liked saying that good ideas need good dirt to grow, and he wasn’t shy about getting his hands in it.
We’ll miss his roar, but we carry his tune: be brave, be useful, be kind. Ted Turner taught us that one stubborn, tender life can tilt the world toward light, and for that we will always be grateful.
