Tom Brown (guard)|Tom Brown
January 1, 1937 - March 18, 2026 (Age 89)
It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we say goodbye to our dear Tom Brown, a man whose laughter could fill a room and whose kindness could quiet a storm. To those who knew him, Tom wasn’t just the formidable guard who cleared the way for the BC Lions—though we were all fiercely proud of his time on that field—he was first and foremost a gentle giant, a husband, a father, and a friend with a mischievous glint in his eye. I’ll never forget how he’d use that same strength that once held off opposing linemen to gently hold his grandkids’ hands crossing the street, or how he’d sneak extra cookies from the kitchen, winking as if we hadn’t seen.
His greatest joy, without a doubt, was his family. For over fifty years, he was the unwavering rock for his beloved Margaret, building a life together filled with a love that was simple, deep, and true. He was a father who coached from the sidelines with patience and pride, and a grandfather whose storytelling—often embellished with a few tall tales—was legendary. Our family gatherings won’t be the same without Tom at the barbecue, flipping burgers with his special touch, or leading a rousing, off-key singalong after dinner. He taught us that the most important victories aren’t on a scoreboard, but in the moments we share, the memories we make, and the love we give freely.
Beyond the football field, Tom found peace in his garden, where he’d spend hours coaxing life from the soil, a quiet ritual that grounded him. He was a lifelong reader, a devoted fan of his local community theatre, and the first to lend a hand to a neighbour, never wanting any fuss or thanks. His impact on others was a quiet, constant current of decency. He mentored younger players not with lectures, but with example—showing up, working hard, and looking out for your buddy. He made everyone feel seen, valued, and a little safer just by being near.
So, we celebrate Tom Brown: a great man in every sense. He played his part with grit and grace, but his true legacy is written in the hearts of all who loved him. We will miss his presence, his wisdom, and his warm, steady love more than words can say. Rest easy, our dear friend, our husband, our father, our grandpa. The field is quieter without you, but the light you left behind will guide us home.
