To the world, he was Anthony Leonard Godden, the gentle giant between the posts for Chelsea, West Brom, and a string of other clubs. But to us, he was so much more: a husband with a laugh that could fill a room, a father who was his children’s biggest champion, and a grandfather whose face lit up at the sight of his grandsons. He carried the stature of a professional athlete, but his true power was in his humility and his warmth—a man who never let his own achievements overshadow the joy he found in others. Tony’s life was built on love and loyalty. He was deeply devoted to his wife, Pat, his rock for over forty years.
