Tony Parkes
January 1, 1950 - April 23, 2026 (Age 76)
Tony Parkes wasn’t just a familiar face on the touchline; he was the heartbeat of our family and a rock for everyone who knew him. Born on a crisp winter day in 1950, Tony lived a life defined by dedication, warmth, and an unwavering love for the beautiful game. While the world knew him as the steadfast caretaker manager for Blackburn Rovers—stepping up to the plate seven times with that trademark calm resolve—we knew him as the man who would kick a ball around the garden with the grandkids until the sun went down, or the husband who always made sure the tea was brewed just right. Even as he faced the long, difficult road with Alzheimer’s, his gentle spirit never dimmed; he simply found new, quieter ways to show his love, holding our hands a little tighter and sharing smiles that needed no explanation.
Football was more than a career for Tony; it was his first language. From his days playing professionally to his later years scouting talent for Blackburn, he lived and breathed the sport. I’ll never forget the stories he’d tell over Sunday dinner about his time at Blackpool, or the countless hours he spent analyzing plays, not for the glory, but because he genuinely loved helping others succeed. He had a coach’s eye for potential, but more importantly, he had a father’s heart for people. Whether he was managing a crisis at Ewood Park or just enjoying a quiet afternoon, he brought a sense of grounded stability that made everyone around him feel safe and capable.
But for all his accomplishments on the pitch, his greatest legacy is the family he cherished so deeply. Tony was the glue that held us together, the person we all turned to for advice, comfort, and a good laugh. He taught us that hard work and loyalty are the most important values, but he also showed us how to find joy in the simple things—a walk in the countryside, a hearty meal shared with loved ones, and the unwavering support of those standing beside you. He leaves behind a hole that can never truly be filled, but he also leaves behind a blueprint for how to live a life of integrity and kindness.
Rest easy, Tone. You managed the game of life with grace, you fought the final whistle with bravery, and you are loved more than words can say. We will miss you terribly, but we take comfort knowing you are finally at peace.
