Tony Parkes
January 1, 1950 - April 23, 2026 (Age 76)
Tony Parkes was the kind of man who made everyone feel like they'd known him forever. Whether he was chatting with fans at a match, mentoring a nervous young player, or simply sitting with family over a cup of tea, Tony had a way of putting people at ease that was simply unmatched. Born on 5 May 1949, he brought that warmth to everything he did, from his playing days on the pitch to his many years guiding teams from the sidelines.
Tony's love for football wasn't just a career—it was in his blood. After a successful playing career, he transitioned seamlessly into coaching, where his true gift shine brightest. Anyone who worked with Tony will tell you he had an incredible ability to see potential in people, to believe in them even when they doubted themselves. He served as caretaker manager for Blackburn Rovers on six occasions and most recently took on the role at Blackpool, each time stepping up with the same dedication and grace that defined his entire career. Even after hanging up his managerial boots, he continued scouting for Blackburn Rovers, always looking for the next talent, the next young player who needed someone to believe in them.
But Tony was so much more than football. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose family meant everything to him. He loved nothing more than Sunday dinners with the whole family gathered around, telling stories and laughing until his sides hurt. His grandchildren adored him, and he adored them right back—always patient, always present, always ready for another game or another bedtime story. His wife was his rock, his partner through every high and low, and the love they shared was the kind that inspired everyone who witnessed it.
In recent years, Tony faced the challenges of Alzheimer's disease with remarkable dignity. His family wants to thank the wonderful caregivers who treated him with such compassion and respect in his final years. Though the disease took so much, it could never erase the legacy of kindness, humor, and genuine love that Tony left behind.
Tony Parkes touched so many lives—players he coached, colleagues who became friends, fans who remembered his passion on the pitch, and countless family members who will carry his memory in their hearts forever. He showed us all what it means to live with integrity, to treat others with respect, and to find joy in the simple things. We miss you already, Tony. The pitch won't be the same without you.
