Trevor McMahon

January 1, 1930 - March 13, 2026 (Age 96)

Trevor McMahon was the kind of man who made everyone feel like they were his favourite person. Born on 8 November 1929, he lived a full and remarkable 96 years, passing peacefully on 12 March 2026. To those who knew him, Trevor was a gentle soul with a quick wit, a warm smile, and an unshakable kindness that made him beloved by all. Cricket was Trevor's great passion. As a wicket-keeper for Wellington and the New Zealand national team, he played with dedication and grace, earning respect both on and off the field. From October 2020 until his passing, he held the special honour of being New Zealand's oldest living Test cricketer—a title he wore with quiet pride. But Trevor never let his sporting achievements define him. He was just as proud of his garden, his ability to fix anything with a bit of wire and patience, and the way he could light up a room with a well-timed joke. Family meant everything to Trevor. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always putting his loved ones first. His children remember him as patient and encouraging, the kind of dad who would spend hours teaching them to bat in the backyard or helping with school projects late into the night. His grandchildren adored his storytelling—especially the tales of his cricket days, though he was always quick to downplay his own successes and instead praise his teammates. Trevor had a way of making people feel at ease. Whether he was sharing a cup of tea with neighbours, chatting with fellow parishioners at church, or swapping cricket stories with old teammates, he treated everyone with the same genuine interest and respect. He believed in the simple joys of life: a good book, a well-kept lawn, and laughter shared over a roast dinner. Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life rich with love, humility, and quiet achievement. Trevor McMahon was a gentleman in every sense—a man whose legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
