It is with heavy hearts, but spirits full of gratitude, that we say goodbye to our beloved Vicente Lucas, who passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026. To the world, he was a formidable central defender, a pillar of strength for Belenenses and a proud representative of the Portuguese national team. But to those of us who knew him behind the scenes, he was so much more than the legendary athlete—he was our rock, our storyteller, and the heart of our family. Vicente lived his life with the same passion and discipline he brought to the pitch. Even in his later years, he kept that competitive spark, though it mostly manifested in playful arguments over the Sunday match or a mischievous glint in his eye when he thought he’d won a game of cards. He had a way of making everyone feel seen and heard; whether he was sharing a memory of a championship game or simply listening to the chaotic laughter of his grandchildren, he gave you his full attention and a warmth that could light up any room. His love for football was lifelong, but his greatest joy was always his family. His home was always open, his table always full, and his heart always overflowing with affection for those he held dear. Vicente leaves behind a legacy that transcends trophies and statistics.
