Yoshihisa Kishimoto
January 1, 1962 - April 6, 2026 (Age 64)
It’s with a heart overflowing with love and a profound sense of loss that we say goodbye to Yoshihisa Kishimoto. Born on January 1st, 1962, Yoshihisa – or “Yoshi” as we all knew and loved him – left us on April 6th, 2026, leaving a void in our lives that can never truly be filled. He wasn’t just a video game developer; he was a whirlwind of energy, a mischievous grin, and the most genuinely kind soul I’ve ever known. I remember when he first showed me the early prototypes for Kunio-kun – he’d be bouncing with excitement, sketching furiously on napkins, completely lost in the world he was creating. He had this incredible ability to take simple ideas and transform them into something bursting with life and humor.
Yoshihisa’s passion for games wasn’t just a job; it was a way of life. He poured his heart and soul into crafting those iconic beat ‘em ups, those frantic, joyful battles that brought so much joy to countless players. But beyond the arcade and the console, he was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Akari, and a wonderfully playful and patient father to his children, Hiroki and Hana. He’d spend hours teaching Hiroki how to play Go, patiently explaining the strategy, and always letting Hana win at Double Dragon – a secret indulgence he never revealed. He truly cherished his family, and their laughter was a constant soundtrack to his life.
He found immense pleasure in the small things – a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, a good game of darts, and, of course, tinkering with his latest coding project. He was a collector of vintage video games, a surprisingly skilled potter, and always ready with a silly joke or a comforting word. Yoshihisa’s impact extended far beyond the gaming world. He had a knack for making people feel seen and valued, offering encouragement and a genuine interest in their lives. He fostered a collaborative spirit wherever he went, inspiring those around him to pursue their own passions with the same enthusiasm he possessed.
Yoshihisa may be gone, but his legacy of creativity, kindness, and infectious joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We’ll miss his booming laugh, his quick wit, and the way he could always find the fun in any situation. Rest in peace, my dear Yoshi. You were, and always will be, deeply loved.
