David Chen, 40, a brilliant software engineer and devoted father, passed away suddenly on January 29, 2026, in Seattle, Washington. His light burned bright but far too briefly. David's passion for technology was matched only by his love for his family. He spent his days building software that helped people, and his nights coaching his son's robotics team and reading bedtime stories to his daughter. A first-generation American, David embodied the promise of hard work and education. He mentored dozens of young engineers, especially from underrepresented backgrounds, and sponsored STEM programs in underserved schools. Those who knew David remember his infectious curiosity, terrible dad jokes, and the way he made everyone feel brilliant. His greatest creation wasn't code—it was the love and laughter he brought to every room.
