Dr. Sarah Chen

Dr. Sarah Chen, 57, of San Francisco, California, passed away on January 25, 2026, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. A pioneering pediatric oncologist, Dr. Chen dedicated her career to treating childhood cancers and advancing research. She published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and led clinical trials that improved survival rates for rare pediatric cancers. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Sarah immigrated to the United States at age 10. She graduated from Stanford University and UCSF Medical School with highest honors. She is survived by her husband David; children Emma and Lucas; her parents in Taiwan; and countless patients whose lives she touched. A memorial service will be held at UCSF Mission Bay Conference Center on February 5th. The family has established the Dr. Sarah Chen Memorial Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research.
