Patricia Ann "Patty" O'Brien

October 31, 1958 - January 23, 2026 (Age 67)

Boston, Massachusetts

Patricia Ann "Patty" O'Brien, 67, of Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on January 23, 2026, doing what she loved—coaching her granddaughter's soccer team. Patty was a force of nature: high school English teacher, champion marathoner, cancer survivor (twice), and the most competitive Scrabble player in three counties. She taught English at Boston Latin School for 40 years, where she was known for her tough love, red pen, and the way she made Shakespeare come alive. Hundreds of former students credit Patty with changing their lives. A devoted Red Sox fan, Patty attended over 1,000 games at Fenway Park and could recite the stats of every player since 1967. She is survived by her husband Patrick; children Kathleen, Timothy, and Brendan; seven grandchildren; and her twin sister Mary. A wake will be held at O'Connor Funeral Home on January 27th. Funeral mass at St. Brigid's on January 28th at 10 AM. Wear Red Sox gear—Patty would insist on it.
